Energy Storage

Why install energy storage?

Solar Photovoltaic systems produce energy when most people are not at home. The challenge therefore lies in the capacity to store this energy for consumption when you really need it, like in the evening and in the morning at home, or during the day for small businesses.

By installing battery storage systems, you are able to maximise your self-consumption by storing the excess energy your solar PV system produces. The advances in storage capacity and battery technology mean you can now take control of how much energy you decide to buy from the grid.

How does it work?

The concept of battery storage is relatively simple: whilst your solar panels are generating energy from the sun during the daytime, the energy will firstly power your appliances you are currently running, all the extra energy being generated that you are not using will be diverted to the battery storage device.

Once the battery is fully charged the extra energy is then fed back into the national grid. When the panels are producing less energy than the home is demanding, the inverter will pull the free stored energy from the battery to feed the demand from the house. A typical home owner can expect to be 85% self sufficient from a 5KW battery and a decent Solar PV System.

Why should I have a battery with My Solar PV System?

  • Installing battery storage will reduce your dependancy on utility companies
  • It protects you against rising energy prices
  • You are using clean energy 24/7, not just during daylight hours
  • It improves your energy security
  • It maximizes the benefit of your solar PV system
  • You will significantly reduce your electricity bill
  • You are contributing to reducing CO2 emmisons whie saving money
  • You avoid paying heavy peak power charges from your electricity provider by shaving demand peaks
