What is Rated Solar Installer?
Rated Solar Installer is a new and unique rating programme for the UK solar PV industry which enables domestic and commercial customers to find high quality products and installers. The platform is based on proven and popular rating concepts and is designed to give customers confidence in going solar and a peace of mind guarantee. In a few simple steps, both domestic and commercial customers can register, post a job, choose their installer and rate the installer once a job is completed.

Why should I use this programme?
Rated Solar Installer will help you to make a more informed choice when selecting a solar energy system and an installer for your home or business.

What are the benefits of Rated Solar Installer?

How much does it cost me?
Using Rated Solar Installer is free for the customer. FREE Insurance cover is available to all domestic installations that have had their job posted via our programme and have been carried out by one of our approved installers. For domestic customers to claim their FREE workmanship insurance they must have posted their job, registered the installation and rated their installer upon completion of the job with Rated Solar Installer.  

How do you select and qualify installers?
Installers are chosen on the basis of demonstrating proven track record.  We also randomly contact their previous customers to make sure they have done a good job before the next customer contract them to install their solar system.

How can I register as a customer?
Please follow this link to register as a customer. You will then have access to your customer dashboard, where you can post a job and update your information. You will also be able to view the approved installers.

I have registered, but haven’t received a verification email. What should I do?
Check your junk and spam folders for a message from us. If you cannot find a reply, please contact us.

How do I post a domestic or commercial job?
When you log into your customer user account, on the top of your customer dashboard page, you have two separate buttons, one for posting a domestic job and another to post a commercial job. Please click the relevant button and follow the instructions.

How do I choose an installer?
You can choose an installer on the basis of their ratings, vicinity to your address or product range they install.

How many installers can I choose?
You can choose up to 3 installers at any time. You will be contacted by the installers selected who will provide you with a quote. If you have not been contacted by the installers you have selected within 7 days, please contact us.

How do I message an installer who I have requested a quote from?
Please log into your customer user account and on your dashboard choose the relevant job and click ‘view’. The page will open to a tab called ‘messages’ where you can submit any questions, further information or plans in the provided text box.

How do I cancel a job?
If you want to cancel a job, please log into your customer user account and click ‘view’ on the relevant job. The page will open to a tab called ‘messages’. Below this tab, there will be another tab saying ‘cancel job’. Please click this tab and follow instructions.

What should I do to receive my 10 years free insurance (domestic installations only)?
In order to receive your 10 years free insurance, you need to register your completed installation and rate your installer through your customer user account on our website. Please note that the 10 years free workmanship insurance is granted at the discretion of the insurer and is decided on a case by case basis.

How can I insure my commercial installation?
Our insurance brokers can provide you with a quote for your commercial installation once you have posted a job. To receive a quote, please e-mail [email protected].

How do I submit a rating?
Once your installation is completed, you can rate the installer. Log into your customer user account, click ‘view’ on the relevant job and the page will open to a tab called ‘messages’ with a button saying ‘job completed’. Please click that button and another button saying ‘rate your installer’ will appear. Click the button and follow the instructions.

How can I apply for finance? 
When you post a job, choose the ‘lease’ option from the dropdown menu at the start of the form. The finance company will then get in touch regarding a financing contract and choose one of the qualified installers to install your system.

What if I already have a solar energy system installed by a Rated Solar Installer and want to submit a rating?

How can I change my user account email address?
On your customer dashboard go to ‘edit profile’, fill in your email address, enter your password and click ‘update’.

I can’t remember my user account email address, what should I do?
Please contact us and provide your full name.

How can I change my user account contact details?
On your customer dashboard, please fill in your contact details under ‘edit profile’, enter your password and click ‘update’.

How can I change my password?
On your customer dashboard, please fill in your new password and confirm your new password under ‘edit profile’ and click ‘update’.

I forgot my password, what should I do?
You can reset your password. Please follow this link to reset your password.

I submitted a request to reset my password, but have not received an email with instructions. What should I do?
Check your junk and spam folders for a message from us. If you cannot find a reply, please contact us.

How can I delete my account?
On your customer dashboard, under the ‘edit profile’ section there is an option to ‘close account’.

How do you select and qualify installers?
Installers are chosen on the basis of demonstrating proven track record. We also randomly contact their previous customers to make sure they have done a good job before the next customer contract them to install their solar system.

How can I apply to become a qualified Rated Solar Installer?
i. Please follow this link to register as an installer.
ii. Fill in the assessment form. Please make sure you submit ALL required information, as incomplete applications will not be accepted.
iii. After a review that can take up to 14 working days, you will be notified whether your application has been approved or declined.
iv. If your application has been approved you will get access to your installer dashboard, where you have an overview of your job requests and ratings, and can edit your profile information.

I have registered, but didn't receive a verification email. What should I do?

Do I have to answer all questions on the assessment form?
Yes, incomplete application are likely to be rejected.

Can I submit a hard copy instead of filling in the online assessment form?
No, all information needs to be submitted online through our website.

What if I haven’t been in business long enough to be able to submit references for installation?
We only accept applications from installers that can provide past references.

What if I don’t have an answer to a mandatory question on the assessment form?
All mandatory questions on the application form need to be answered. Acceptability of minor omissions will be decided on a case to case basis.

How much does it cost to join Rated Solar Installer?
Joining Rated Solar Installer is free. As an approved installer you are entitled to a standard profile listing with a short company description and contact details. You will only pay a fee per install after the completion of an installation. Per install fees are based on system size and will be invoiced on a monthly basis. For the current rates please contact us.

How can I upgrade my profile from standard to premium?
You can upgrade your profile from standard to premium at any time for an annual fee, please contact us. A premium profile includes a dedicated micro page with extended profile text, a high resolution company logo, plus additional tabs for product information, case studies, image gallery, press releases, and news. Your premium profile listing is automatically renewed unless cancelled by notifying us 30 day prior to expiry date.

Can I advertise on the Rated Solar Installer website?
You can advertise on Rated Solar Installer to increase your market exposure. For details and rates please contact us.

Where can I see the contact details of a customer who has selected my company for a job?
On your installer dashboard, please click on ‘view’ for the relevant job. This will open an 'overview' page with different tabs on the left hand side. Please click on ‘job details’ to see the customer information.

How do I contact a customer that has requested a quote?
Please log into your installer user account and click ‘view’ on the relevant job. This will open an 'overview' page with a field, where you can fill in a quote amount, submit your comments into a text box and upload documents. Below the quote area, there is a section where you can post comments and submit them by clicking 'send message'. This can be used to communicate with the customer before submitting a quote.

Do I have to quote for every job request I receive?
You do not have to quote for jobs which you don’t wish to undertake, however you are requested to notify the customer via your dashboard.

How can I add/update the text that appears on my listing?
On your installer dashboard you can update your listing text under ‘edit profile’ > ‘company summary’. Make sure your text does not exceed 100 words.

How can I add/update the text that appears on my dedicated micro page (premium profiles only)?
If you are a premium installer, you can update your micro page profile on your installer dashboard under ‘edit page’. Make sure your text does not exceed 400 words.

How can I add content, such as high resolution logo, product information, case studies, images, and press releases/news to my installer premium profile?
Please email your documents to us. Please adhere to the following formats:
- high resolution logo (.jpeg, .tif)
- product information (word, text in email)
- case studies (.pdf)
- images (.jpeg, .tif)
- press releases/news (.pdf)

How can I report a rating?
Once a customer submits a rating, you will be notified and will have the chance to raise an objection. If you wish to do so, please log into your installer user account and click ‘view’ for the relevant job. Please click on the ‘rating’ tab to view your rating and submit a comment in the box saying ‘report this rating’. An administrator will then review your comments and make an impartial decision.

What if I have a customer who wants to use my company through Rated Solar Installer?
This is possible. Upon assessment authorisation you will be sent an 'Installer Code' (ICS). By providing this code to your customers they can register with Rated Solar Installer, however your company will be the only installer visible to them. So no need for concerns about losing your customer to competitors! All 'ICS' code customer per install fees are subject to a 25% discount rate against our standard charges. (Customer insurance cover will still be subject to insurer approval and requirements).

Can my previous customer rate my company?
Yes! Encourage your previous and non- Rated Solar Installer customers to leave you a rating. It’s easy, simply provide them this link - /rate-an-installer (customer personal information will not be visible on our website, or shared with a third party). 

How can I change my user account email address?
On your installer dashboard go to ‘edit profile’, fill in your email address, enter your password and click ‘update’.

How can I delete my account?
You may terminate your Rated Solar Installer status at any time by giving 30 days’ notice, but you will not be entitled to a refund of any premium fees that you have paid for the remaining part of the year.

What do I do when I receive a job request from a customer in an area my company does not cover?
Please contact us and notify the customer via your dashboard.

My MCS certification has expired, can I stay on the programme?
In order to stay on Rated Solar Installer, your MCS certification must be current and valid.

A team of technical and financial experts carefully examine both the company’s products and financial records.

How can I apply to become a qualified Rated Solar Installer manufacturer?
i. Please follow this link to register as a manufacturer.
ii. Fill in the assessment form. Please make sure you submit ALL required information, as incomplete applications will not be accepted.

FREE cover is available to all domestic installations that have had their job posted via our programme and have been carried out by one of our approved installers. For domestic customers to claim their FREE workmanship insurance they must have posted their job, registered the installation and rated their installer upon completion of the job with Rated Solar Installer.  

What is renewable energy warranty insurance?
It’s an insurance policy that protects your deposit should the installer go out of business before your system is installed or if your system fails due to defective workmanship and the installer has ceased trading and is unable to honour their warranty to you.

Do I have to pay for this insurance cover?
No – the policy is paid for by Rated Solar Installer at no extra cost to you.

What kind of renewable energy systems does this insurance cover?
It covers solar PV systems.

What do I need to do now?
Nothing. Should you accept this an installer’s quotation, they will purchase a policy from ecosure and you will receive confirmation of this from ecosure.

How much of my deposit will be covered? (not applicable to Commerical cover)
Your deposit will be covered for 90 days, from the date you pay the installer. The policy will cover you for up to £5,000 or 25% of the total cost of your installation, whichever is the least.

How much cover is there for Defective Workmanship?
Domestic Cover - The cost of repairing or replacing your renewable energy system up to the amount you paid for your system, to a maximum of £20,000. Commercial Cover- The cost of repairing or replacing your renewable energy system up to the amount detailed in the policy schedule.

How long will the policy last?
The policy will either last 5 or 10 years depending on your installer.
